Land of 1000 Smiules


It’s a far cry from marching for the rights that Americans should no longer have to march for to Bangkok — in fact, it’s half a world away.  It’s Saturday morning here — I’ve been traveling since Wednesday night Eastern time, and my body is feeling it.

Bangkok — n0t that I’ve seen anything other than the airport and the hotel — is filled with signs (a) mourning the late king’s death and (b) celebrating Chinese New Year (it’s the year of the Rooster).  I have too much luggage — I brought two duffels with 32 Wrap-a-Smile quilts for the Thai Daughters.  I knew I would have to haul them with me last night (end of international flight; over night at airport hotel; check in for domestic flight to Chiang Rai) what I didn’t know is that when I changed flights in Shanghai it would involve getting a “24 hour visa,”…
